The MovingWell Experience

The MovingWell Experience

This is the most holistic offering …

What you will experience

  • A check in — how may I support you today
  • You may be guided in some sort of relatively short grounding experience.
  • You will be guided in an interactive way through a sequence of easy for you movements chosen based on our check in and designed to support your intention.
  • Some closing activity.

How do I know if this is for me?

There is more than one gateway into the Moving Well Experience. I share three that will fit most situations. Do you see yourself in any of these?

The Pain Gateway

Most of the folks I have worked with in my long career have some sort of physical pain. If you are looking for pain relief here is how the Moving Well Experience will work for you.

  • The movements I choose are ones that address habits or patterns that my experience suggests are associated with your pain. Doing them typically results in less pain and improved coordination — so options for doing what they love increase.

  • As I guide the movement, you are encouraged to pay more attention to how movement feels from the inside, improving overall ability to pay attention and be in the present moment.

Learning to be present in the body and having less pain decreases stress.

The Stress, Anxiety, Overwhelm Gateway

Stress, anxiety and overwhelm are ubiquitous in modern life, and 2020 has been a year that compounded this. Are you someone who feels stressed, anxious and overwhelmed?

  • Your session will definitely begin with a “grounding experience”.

  • You will then be taken through gentle movements that work with how your bones support you. Learning to sense the physical support that the ground and your bones provides is an antidote to stress, anxiety and overwhelm. Alternatively, I may choose movements that embody something we discuss.

  • As I guide the movement, you are encouraged to pay more attention to how movement feels from the inside, improving overall ability to pay attention and be in the present moment. If you think about it, stress anxiety and overwhelm typically involve future “what if” or “how can I” thinking.

It happens that working this way leads to more efficient and effective posture and movement habits. You may be surprised to have fewer aches and pains.

The Mind/Body Gateway

Are you interested in mindfulness? Perhaps you practice yoga or Pilates or other form of mindful movement and curious to explore the mind/body connection in a new way?

  • In its purest form mindful movement and its many applications is what the MovingWell Experience is all about.

  • This gateway potentially has the most room for creativity and improvisation.

  • One of my Feldenkrais® trainers called Awareness through Movement® — the foundation of the MovingWell Experience, to be the ultimate mindfulness activity. Though this is arguable, it certainly is an excellent and novel one.

  • Unlike in other forms of mindful movement there is no external standard of what the movement should look like, nor striving for greater range or other goal. It is merely about having your mind and body in the same place at the same time – in the present moment.

The MovingWell Experience is similar to other mindful movement disciplines in that typically folks experience improved posture and more physical ease and comfort.

Enter the gateway that most draws you in and leave with less pain, stress and overwhelm and a more embodied sense of self.

“I’ve been seeing Marsha Novak for several years.  Her hands-on experience has been wonderful and she always amazed my by getting to “just the right spot.”  I saw her for chronic pain issues and my pain went down as my function went up under her care.
During these dark Covid times I really missed seeing Marsha, but as my husband and I are both older and have asthma, I really didn’t think I could risk seeing her in person.  When she opened her “Virtual Studio” I was a bit skeptical.  How would I get better without her wonderful hands?
I’ve been surprised and happy to find that these sessions are useful and helpful in an entirely different way.  I have a sturdy chair and a mat on the floor for our working areas, and I’ve found that by Marsha directing my moves, it makes me internalize and feel them.  I’ve found that I’m using my body differently after our sessions.  I’m learning much more about the internal structure of my body and how much simple movements can take hold and help me move through the world with less pain.”   – J.S.

Session are 50-60 minutes long via Zoom.
